Our History
and ideals
The global development paradigm within the supply chain has made a tremendous impact that has changed the face of pharmaceutical distribution with the attendant disruptions. In order to be relevant in this era of uncertainty and disruptions, pharmaceutical wholesalers and distributors need to define its relevance in the rapidly changing supply chain landscape . The most perceived strategy to overcome these challenges is by companies with common objective and interest to become more resilient, collaborative and network with other stake holders and players in the chain. Collectively they will be able to launch their entities/companies as vector of progress and change. This necessitated the coming together of this group.
The Pharmaceutical Wholesalers and Distributors Association of Nigeria PWDAN, Is a trade association of companies involved in professional Wholesaling and Distribution and is borne out of the desire to ensure the integrity in the pharmaceutical supply chain by developing and sharing best practices.
The group started in 2018 with 3 members, grew to 18 members and in 2020 it became a national group when it was incorporated with a Board of Trustees that represents the major geopolitical regions of the country.
Members are poised to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements towards achieving set objectives. Self Regulation with a Standard and well established Code of Conduct are in place tocontrol the practice within her member companies. Enrollment into the Association is by Corporate membership.
In the National Drug Distribution Guideline (NDDG) the member companies of the Association occupy the center stage in the distribution chart as a hub to manufacturers,importers, on one hand, and retailers , hospitals and clinics on the other hand. They built capacities in storage, warehousing and inventory and deploy value chain services in delivering fullassortment of pharmaceutical products and medical devices to pharmacies, health institutions across the country.
The Association is a foundation member of African Pharmaceutical Distributors Association(APDA), a Pan-African organization inaugurated in 2018 in Lusaka, Zambia with the objective among others to promote the advancement of health standards of the people of Africa through initiatives that develop and share best practices among member countries and entities.
The main aim and objectives of PWDAN is to foster and promote Best Practices in the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain and contribute to the advancement of Supply Chain integrity in Pharmaceutical practice in all its ramifications. The group move to achieve these by maintaining ethical standards in Pharmaceutical Distribution system in their facilities and processes, thereby enhance the access to safe, quality, and effective medicines to the population in safeguarding public health.
To build integrity in supply chain through collaboration, capacity building and quality service delivery.
Bringing sanity to the Pharmaceutical supply chain while delivering quality pharmaceutical products to Nigerian populace.
Ensuring Pharmaceutical supply chain integrity
To include but not limited to the following:
To protect, project and harmonize the overall interest of PWDAN.
To promote good professional and inter-personal relationship among PWDAN members
To foster, promote and share best practices in the pharmaceutical supply chain.
To promote the advancement of integrity and ethical standards in pharmaceutical wholesale/distribution and healthcare system in general.
Organize workshops and seminars that promote global best practices in the pharmaceutical Supply chain
To advocate and assist in the development of effective and efficient pharmaceutical distribution framework.
To collaborate with other relevant stakeholders and regulators in healthcare system to enhance and improve the overall health care of the people.
